A Story That Carries Something Forward
Share
There is a moment in The Twin Mermaids of the Island Moon where Maharaya and Mahina'ala learn that the greatest treasures were never hidden in sunken caves. They were found in friendship, in family, and in showing up for one another. I did not realize, when I first wrote that line, how closely it would come to describe something we were about to build offstage, away from the pages themselves.
Today, I want to introduce you to that something.
The Part of This Story You Have Not Seen Yet
A portion of every book sold through Island Moon Universe now helps support Enkindled Hope Foundation Inc., a humanitarian organization whose mission is captured in six words: igniting hope through compassionate action.
I did not choose this partnership as an afterthought, or as a box to check. I chose it because the foundation's own vision sounded like something Maharaya and Mahina'ala would recognize immediately.
Who Enkindled Hope Foundation Is
Enkindled Hope Foundation Inc. is dedicated to bringing hope, comfort, and practical assistance to vulnerable individuals, families, and communities. Through compassionate service and community partnerships, they support less fortunate families, patients battling serious illnesses such as cancer and kidney disease, and abandoned or neglected animals, through outreach, assistance, fundraising, and welfare programs.
Their vision is simple, and it is one I find myself returning to often. Communities where kindness inspires action, where hope is shared, and where no one is left behind, whether a family in need, a patient facing illness, or an animal still waiting for a home of their own.
Read that last part again. No one is left behind. That sentence could sit comfortably inside any page of the Island Moon Universe, and now, quietly, it does.
Why This Matters to Me, and to This Universe
Every realm in this universe was built around one belief: that softness is not weakness, and that no one should have to carry hard things entirely alone. I have spent years writing that belief into two mermaid sisters, hoping it would reach children who needed to hear it.
But belief is only real when it moves beyond the page. Partnering with Enkindled Hope Foundation is my way of letting the same hope this universe offers a child at bedtime reach a family, a patient, or an animal somewhere else, in a form they can actually hold.
Together, the foundation and its partners ignite hope, restore dignity, and create meaningful change, one life, one family, and one act of kindness at a time. That is not so different from what I hope one small coloring page, or one bedtime story, can do in your own home.
What This Means When You Bring a Book Home
When you choose The Twin Mermaids of the Island Moon for your child, you are doing two things at once, whether you realized it or not. You are giving your child a story about sisterhood, courage, and the safety of big feelings. And you are helping carry that same hope toward someone who may never read a page of it, but who needed it just as much.
That feels like the truest kind of universe to me. One where the story does not end at the last page, but keeps moving outward, gently, the way a tide always does.
